The Caribbean 45 has been created for extended cruising for one or two couples and a guest or two. She has been developed by Wormwood Performance Yachts to provide fine sailing on passages from the cruising grounds of New England and the Chesapeake to those of the Caribbean basin, and beyond. As with all Wormwood Performance Yachts, the first goal in designing the Caribbean 45 was to provide excellent sailing performance combined with cruising comfort. To this end, the Caribbean 45 will be fitted with a high aspect ratio sail plan on a rotating mast, deep daggerboards for superior lateral resistance, and large rudders for control. The rudders and daggerboards retract to allow exploration of Bahamian waters less than 30" deep. When the foils are extended, the Caribbean 45 will sail upwind 5-10° higher than the current crop of fixed keel equipped cruising cats. Over the course of a 100-mile sail to weather, 5° would place the Caribbean 45 more than 16 miles further to windward...shortening the journey by hours. Elimination of the keels also reduces form drag and wetted surface, further enhancing speed through the water, which in turn will further shorten the passage. This same windward ability will make it possible to claw off a lee shore in a storm - a serious consideration for voyaging along coastlines. Available with the galley located either in the main salon, as shown, or with the galley below in one hull, the Caribbean 45 can be configured to suite an owner's individual tastes and requirements. A private cabin with a queen-sized berth is fitted into the aft third of each hull, providing exceptional privacy for the sleeping couples. The galley up version provides an additional pilot berth amidship in the starboard hull, along with a small cabin with a single berth in the starboard bow. The port hull is configured as the owner's suite, with a larger head and separate, two person, shower. The port bow is set apart as a storage area and workshop; separated from the owner's suite by a watertight bulkhead. The settee in the main salon has been configured to provide an additional two berths...allowing the off watch on a short- handed passage to be near at hand. Sliding doors and opening windows in the bulkhead between the cockpit and the main salon allow the Caribbean 45 to be buttoned up during passages; yet opened up into one large cockpit/salon social area at anchor or sunny days at sea. Unlike other yachts on the market, the Caribbean 45 is constructed using a vacuum- bagged composite of epoxy resin, uni-directional fibers and Corecell foam core. This is done to create a lightweight, extremely stiff yacht that will remain so decades longer than typical production multihulls constructed with polyester resin and woven fabrics. Hand in hand with our quest for sailing performance is our quest for safety at sea. Unlike other multihulls on the market, the Caribbean 45 is fitted with a number of watertight bulkheads and compartments to provide damage control in the event of holing. Although this practice is common in commercial ships and naval vessels, it is rarely applied to private yachts. Even though the Caribbean 45 is unsinkable due to the foam core used throughout, we choose to take safety a step further by ensuring that flooding can be controlled. Styling is a very important component of any Wormwood Performance Yacht. We feel that we have only gotten it right when you can't resist taking one more loving look at your yacht as you motor away in the dinghy or walk away down the dock. The Caribbean 45 maintains that tradition of slinky lines and powerful good looks. The flowing lines, soft curves, and raked bows will confirm her owner's taste for fine yachts wherever she sails. Come, join us in experiencing yachting in the 21st century. |
