Peter's goal in developing a new design is to create a yacht with comfortable accommodations and great sailing performance, tailored to her owner's individual sailing style and cruising grounds. He feels that a cruising boat must also be designed to be sea kindly, well balanced in all conditions, and easy for a small crew to operate - even in extreme conditions. When all of these aspects are developed and balanced correctly, the result is a true performance cruising boat. An Industrial Engineer by education, Peter develops his interior designs to be functional, efficient, and sumptuously comfortable. Deck layouts receive the same treatment. Because of his vast offshore experience, Peter is able to mentally create every situation a yacht's future crew will experience. Before an owner ever steps foot on his new yacht, Peter will have spent countless hours mentally living aboard, performing the myriad tasks that make up life aboard a cruising yacht. From reefing the sails to changing the engine oil, Peter has examined the details that can effect the joy of ownership.
yacht designers - windward performance. He feels that the safety of a boat hinges on its ability to claw off a lee shore. In addition, because sailing upwind has the potential to be the most uncomfortable of all sailing angles, he likes a boat that gets it over quickly. By applying racing design technology to cruising catamarans, Peter is able to instill true upwind performance in his cruising designs. As it turns out, the underwater shapes and sail plans that he has developed for going to windward also reach and run beautifully. In recognition of his exceptional knowledge and understanding of sailing, sailboats and multihulls in particular, Peter has been called upon five times as a judge to select Sailing World Magazine's Boat of the Year. No other multihull designer has ever been asked to sit on this prestigious panel, and no other sailing industry professional has been asked to return as many times. Peter Wormwood is the pro to whom the pros turn. |
